Housing Complex in UK Draws Inspiration From One of the Seven Wonders of the World
A modern day Hanging Gardens of Babylon.
London-based Architects of Invention have proposed a new student housing complex in the city of Birmingham which draws inspiration from one of the Seven Wonders of the World — the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The 500-unit complex named Garden Hill is designed with two 25-story towers that face each other and feature staggered units with both private and shared gardens on the terrace of each level.
Utilizing this design, the firm hopes to give students a better view of the city and allow for natural sunlight to flow in during the day time. Sixty percent of the units will be one bedrooms while the other 40% will be two bedrooms. Sustainability was also taken into account and plans call for cross-laminated timber (CLT) and wind and solar power sources to drive energy to heating under the floor and hot water creation.
