'Trainspotting' Creator Is Writing a TV Show About '80s Acid House and Rave
‘Ibiza87’ is based on the experiences of UK DJs.
Irvine Welsh, creator of the cult favorite comedy Trainspotting, is writing his first TV show called Ibiza87. The forthcoming series will delve into the acid house and rave scene of the 1980s, focusing on the lives of UK DJs Paul Oakenfold, Nicky Holloway and Danny Rampling. The drama will also be co-written by Dean Cavanagh and co-produced by Leo Pearlman and Fanny Potts.
“Like the missing link between 24 Hour Party People and Straight Outta Compton, Ibiza87 chronicles the rollercoaster highs and lows, the drug-fuelled excess and the untold riches through to the rivalries, violence and arrests of an incredible period in British music culture,” states the press release for Ibiza87.
