Techart's Ingenious Adapter Adds Autofocus to Manual Focus Lenses
Combining old-school magic with modern convenience.
A majority of vintage camera hobbyists would undoubtedly argue for the tactile pleasure of manual focus lenses, but for those who favor both their sturdy craftsmanship as well as the convenience of modern autofocus lenses, Guangzhou-based Techart has unveiled an adapter which adds an autofocus function to manual lenses. Utilizing an extendable Leica M bayonet mount with electrical contacts for the Sony a7 II and a7R II, the Techart PRO AF adapter moves the lens closer or further away from the sensor plane by up to 4.5mm to bring the image into focus. Additional adapters can be mounted onto the Techart PRO AF to accommodate other standards, and single and continuous autofocus modes are also supported. Weighing a mere 133 grams, the Techart PRO AF can be preordered now for $349 USD, with a shipping date in March 2016.
