One of the Biggest Rumors Surrounding the iPhone Has Just Been Confirmed
“…if Apple doesn’t walk down this path and transform itself, there will be no innovation.”
President of Sharp and Foxconn executive Tai Jeng-wu has announced that the iPhone will be replacing its LTPS (low-temperature poly-silicon) for an OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display. The announcement echoes earlier reports of an all-glass iPhone with a curved OLED panel. Unlike the iPhone’s current LCD display, OLED allows for a greater degree of flexibility, enhanced color contrast and more efficient battery consumption. Tai definitively stated, “We don’t know whether Apple’s OLED iPhones will be a hit, but if Apple doesn’t walk down this path and transform itself, there will be no innovation.”
Apple may be timing an iPhone overhaul to the handset’s 10th anniversary, which could result in a series of major upgrades in addition to an OLED panel. Other reports suggest Apple will launch three new iPhone models in 2017, suggesting that we might see an iPhone 7S, 7S Plus and a third “anniversary” model with a different name altogether.
