Beautifully Edited Visual Effects Breakdown From 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'
CG process never looked this good.
A lot of talk was made about the anticipated level of visual effects before Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released. Much of that was due to the speculated overly-saturated use of CG in the prequel trilogy. To the satisfaction of fans, Episode VII‘s use of digital technology was incredibly well done and masked by a veil of realism, despite an impressive 2,100 out of the film’s 2,500 shots having CG in it. To get a good look at how the technology was applied, the video above shows the breakdown of the visual effects in the movie, from the original raw footage through to final execution. While most of the video focuses on the desert world of Jakku and its awesome aerial combat scenes, we also get an inside look at the creation of Lupita Nyong’o's character Maz Kanata, among other aspects of the film.
