Watch Surfer Mick Fanning Escape a Shark Attack During a Competition
The former ASP World Tour champion gets very lucky in South Africa.
Australian professional surfer Mick Fanning narrowly escaped a shark attack this weekend, whilst competing in the J-Bay Open competition in South Africa. Caught by television cameras, the video above shows Fanning, the 2007, 2009 and 2013 ASP World Tour champion, get briefly pulled underneath the water by the shark before rescue boats are able to reach him and scare the shark away. “All of [a] sudden, I just had this instinct that something was behind me,” explained Fanning to the World Surf League’s website “I felt like I started getting pulled under water. Then it came up, and I was on my board and it was like right there, and I saw the whole thing thrashing around.” Fanning amazingly escaped the attack un-injured and went on to share the second place prize of the consequently cancelled tournament.
