Mattel and Google Reimagine the Iconic View-Master Toy
One of the most iconic toys of the ’90s, the View Master is now being reimagined in a partnership

One of the most iconic toys of the ’90s, the View Master is now being reimagined in a partnership between Mattel and Google. The new View Master takes from its original silhouette, but now you’ll be able to experience virtual reality in a child-friendly manner. Using Google’s Cardboard virtual reality platform, users can insert an Android phone into the plastic unit (where reels were once inserted), and along with the View Master application, one will be able to experience “virtual worlds.” Along with the new toy are “experience reels,” which resemble the old View Master reels, but instead of inserting it into the eyepiece and looking at film, they will include codes that you can scan with your phone, uncovering 3D images. The new View Master will be available this fall, retailing for $29.99 USD with additional reels for $14.99 USD.
