Spike Lee Sells His New Movie on Vimeo One Month Before Release

Director Spike Lee will release his vampire-esque romantic-horror-comedy film, one month before theatrical release, on Vimeo. The quirky film, titled Da Sweet Blood of Jesus, stars Felicia Pearson of The Wire fame and is about a group of individuals who’ve developed an addiction to drinking blood.

The motive for this unusual distribution channel may be due to the $1.25 million Lee was able to obtain from fans off the crowd-funding platform, Kickstarter. The rise of digital distribution has allowed filmmakers to release more obscure feature films without big studio backing and theater support.
