“To The Archives, No Longer Relevant,” said the invitation to the Raf Simons 2015 fall/winter collection. With an increased rawness and informality, relinquishing the past seemed to be the theme here. Chock full of long silhouettes – notably, long lab coats repeated throughout the show – it gave an eerily sterile aura, contrasting the commercialism we saw in Milan. The rawness was amplified by the setting, with unfinished metal scaffolding and a standing-only policy, which highlighted the deconstructed nature of the pieces walking down the runway. Edges were frayed, sleeves were ripped off, clothes were scribbled on, and hair was greasy and rebellious. Simons was all about difference, with highly original silhouettes.
