If you ever wanted to hear Vince Staples‘ street-seasoned, arctic-cold raps over a more upbeat, funkier template your prayers have been answered. For the second edition of Converse’s genre-mixing CONS series, the brand has united Vince Staples and Boston funk-rock quintet Bad Rabbits for the song “Made.” Juxtaposed over wailing, woozy funk melodies, Staples hard-as-concrete raps still place the rapper as someone “ready for war,” but the added instrumentation and vocoder-drowned trills from Bad Rabbits almost morph the track into a feel-good production crafted for Summer barbecues. You can stream the Converse-curated track above, and keep an eye out for CONS EP Vol. 2, which is scheduled for release sometime in early Fall.
