Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister – long known for his work as Christopher Nolan’s right-hand man – makes his directorial debut with the forthcoming science-fiction epic Transcendence. First revealed back in December, the film stars Johnny Depp as Dr. Will Caster – the world’s foremost authority on Artificial Intelligence and a researcher working to create a sentient machine capable of combining a full range of human emotions with an intelligence that exceeds that of everything ever known to humanity. As Caster looks to become part of the technology following an attack by anti-technology extremists, his wife and best friend – also researcher – question the wisdom of his drive as the goal to acquire knowledge and power become unstoppable. Starring an ensemble cast that includes Morgan Freeman, Rebecca Hall, Paul Bettany, Kate Mara and Cillian Murphy, Pfister’s Transcendence is set to hit theaters April 17.
