Big Apple stalwart brand aNYthing introduced us to Rick Librizzi via a video last week, which gave a brief insight into the painter’s career. The brand held an exhibition on Friday at its flagship on Allen Street, a showcase of artwork as well as a set of collaborative T-shirts. Ostensibly, Librizzi is your traditional disgruntled New Yorker, blue about gentrification and vexed by some modern artists. Underneath this though is a beautiful and raw intimacy with the everyday world, which shines through his work. Sounds from the street, dusty vintage books from street vendors, music, and food all collide in Librizzi’s paintings, which gloriously reiterate themes from the Beat Generation and postmodern art. The art seen above was made special for the show, with each piece made available for purchase. Enjoy our recap above.
