Years after the initial batch of releases from The Weeknd hit the web, producer Illangelo has definitely outgrown his early affilation with the OVOXO crooner. The Grammy-winning musician has evolved into his own artist, with his own body of original, solo work and collaborations alongside the likes of Phlo Finister and Rochelle Jordan. Now, Illangelo is concluding the year with a hazy, ballad-esque number featuring singer Chuck Ellis. Ellis’ fragile, high-pitched vocals sort of drift and flow over the song in a way that recalls artists like Spooky Black and Sam Smith, but it’s Illangelo’s unique, unorthodox take on production that makes this song. You can listen to “Alone” above.
