At this point, No I.D.‘s stature as one of the most important hip-hop producers in the game speaks for itself, but what may be most impressive about the Chicago legend is his ear for talent and knack for cultivating it. His resume famously began in the early ’90s with mentoring a young Kanye West and helping mold Common‘s groundbreaking original sound, but fast-forward 20 years and the man is still going strong. The newest addition to his impressive Artium roster is Swedish singer/songwriter Snoh Aalegra, who has quietly been on people’s radar (or not so quietly if you take into account Instagram followers) for the past several months due to a couple of covers she uploaded to YouTube, mysterious branding and, well, for being under the wings of No I.D. Finally, Snoh has liberated her debut track, properly titled “The Fall.” With her massive vocals atop distorted guitars, hip-hop drums and grand strings laid down by No I.D. with assistance from Michael Percy, the emotive song is a fitting soundtrack to usher in the new season. But with an introduction like this, it won’t be surprising if Snoh starts heating up in the cooler months ahead. Listen to “The Fall” and grab a free download of it below.
