Darryl "DMC" McDaniels Puts Out His First Independent Hip-Hop Novel
Darryl “DMC” McDaniels of the legendary Run-D.M.C. launches a Kickstarter campaign to meld together
Darryl “DMC” McDaniels of the legendary Run-D.M.C. launches a Kickstarter campaign to meld together two long-term passions: hip-hop and comics. While D.M.C.’s replete resume speaks volumes — Grammy-nominated musician, multi-platinum recording artist, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee — his latest endeavor teams up with art director Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez and music executive Rig Morales on a 48-page independent novel under the imprint Daryl Makes Comics. The cover art will feature Marvel artist Sal Buscema while the novel calls upon some of the comic world’s finest; Damion Scott and Dexter Vine of Batman, Superman and Spider-Man. Set in hip-hop’s revolutionary decade of the ’80s, the script shows DMC as a superhero fighting for justice in an alternate universe. Filled with Wild Style-type fonts and boom bap sensibility, the novel stays true to independent spirit via self-funding and fans’ contributions. Head over to the Kickstarter campaign for more on the project.
