Adamant street artist JR has used Instagram to share his latest endeavor. While the French artist often use striking backdrops for his work, this latest installment is perhaps one his most concealed pieces. Unveiling a large eye of an inmate on the wall of Rikers Island Prison, the throw-up sees the signature monochromatic wheat paste design overlook the prison yard. JR said of the piece “he wanted me to choose his eye looking left as life in jail is all about watching your back. He came out in the jail yard when we were pasting. He’s 18-years-old, it’s his second time in jail. Even if no one will recognize his eye he knows he’s part of a bigger picture.”
