Born and based in Los Angeles, Gary Baseman‘s work as an artist, illustrator, animator and, most famously, as a pioneer of art toys is currently on display at the Skirball Cultural Center. “The Door Is Always Open” features paintings, photographs, textiles, toys, statues, sketchbooks, and videos by Baseman that highlight his quirky design ethos and are presented inside surroundings inspired by his home in Fairfax as well as his Jewish heritage.
