Sony Computer Entertainment of Japan has terminated production of the popular PlayStation 2, although video games will still be produced for the console. Having raised Sony’s profit to its peak with 150 million consoles sold worldwide, PlayStation 2 has been an international success since its creation in March 2000, playing host to a list of favored games such as Grand Theft Auto, Resident Evil and Final Fantasy. With its production run coming to an end – after earning the title of second best-selling console of all time – rumors are in the air regarding the release date of the PlayStation 4. As of now, Sony has not confirmed the development of PlayStation 4 nor has it announced whether PlayStation 2 will cease production in other countries.
