Utilizing pattern recognition concepts behind stereograms (anyone remember Magic Eye books?), Chinese artist Lu Xinjian has created a series of paintings with classic poems from Charles Baudelaire and William Shakespeare buried beneath the visual illusion. Each acrylic on canvas painting blends a myriad of colors and patterns through reinterpretation of each poem’s characters, and requires a patient and steady eye to decipher. You can read a full essay from Xinjian on his project here and the motivations behind it.
