Amidst the news of Barack Obama supporting same-sex marriage, the President of the United States has received praise from a number of celebrities, including Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin and Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons. This once again brings the world closer to equal opportunities and treatment for the gay, lesbian and bisexual community. Although still present, homophobia used to have a very strong presence in hip-hop over the years. The support from Obama and icon Russell Simmons sheds light on the issue, and may possibly enable people to change their opinion. See the following tweets below from Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin and Russell Simmons.
Lady Gaga: “Obama, congratulations on being the first sitting President to support marriage equality. Feels like the future, and not the past. #NoFear.”
Ricky Martin: “I applaud President @barackobama for affirming that ALL Americans should enjoy equal rights. Historic! I will be a very proud host on Monday.”
Russell Simmons: “thank you Mr. President for your support of gay marriage.”
