It’s been a long time since we’ve heard from D’Angelo, who turned away from the music scene shortly after his platinum and Grammy-winning success attributed to the Voodoo album. Although he hasn’t been in the music scene for a while, the singer has occasionally been in the spotlight for his run-ins with the law. Now turning over a new leaf, according to CBS, the R&B singer will perform on the opening night of the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans. The festival runs July 6-8, and will further boast performances from the likes of Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige, the Pointer Sisters, Trey Songz, Eve, Charlie Wilson, Keyshia Cole, SWV, Goapele, Estelle, and more. We have seen some footage of D’Angelo entertaining European crowds earlier this year, and we can tell that he has not lost any of his energy. In addition, his upcoming new album is near its completion.
