A modern day interpretation of Rorschach patterns seemingly featuring everything from animals to aliens, SNKRFACE is the latest project from Jermaine Bucknor. The Jamaican-born artist, now living in Calgary, originally started the project out of a desire for some custom art pieces and the need to do something with a dusty old pair of Nikes. After first experimenting with a number of techniques, Bucknor ultimately decided to include the pieces of the physical shoe in the artwork itself. Now more than six months into the works, SNKRFACE includes brands like adidas, Nike and PUMA to KangaROOS, ASICS, ellesse and more, each asking the viewer “What do you see?” Later this summer, SNKRFACE is set to be featured in a show in conjunction with Human Photography and the Jazzlib Collective.
