Akira Bike for Katsuhiro Otomo GENGATEN Exhibition

Fans of the Katsuhiro Otomo manga series Akira should be able to immediately recognize the spectacular signature motorcycle ridden by Shotaro Kaneda. Until now, the highly customized fictitious bike has never seen a real-life counterpart. For the paltry sum of around $120,000 USD, the bike was meticulously recreated by Shinji Tejima and his design house Showa Studio over the course of seven years. As part of the new Katsuhiro Otomo GENGA Exhibition in Tokyo, you can check out (and even sit on) the bike, along with 2125 pieces of original drawings from the manga series. Proceeds from the exhibition which will take place until May 30, will be donated to reconstruction efforts in the Tohoku region effected by last year’s earthquake and tsunami.
