Supreme Cuts - Lessons of Darkness (Apology)

Chicago’s Supreme Cuts, comprised of producers Michael Perry and Austin Keultjes are preparing to drop their debut full-length on Dovecote records, home of frequent collaborators Wise Blood, Ssion and Hooray For Earth. The songs on Whispers In The Darkare initially stunning and immersive. The melodic sub-bass is felt before it’s heard, kettle drums chase the heels of staccato percussion through environs of sound, and melody accompanied by the wails of enigmatic vocalists and even birds. The entire aesthetic is inoculated by a pervasive obsession with rap music, from the Three 6 Mafia-referencing liner notes to song titles such as “Ciroc Waterfalls,” but even more compelling, Whispers In The Dark is a demonstration of how regional influences can shape an entirely new sound.
