A few weeks back, indie pop/R&B artist Tom Krell—better known as How To Dress Well—upped his resume with the release of his sophomore album, Total Loss. It’s received wide critical acclaim and the catchy lead single, “& It Was You,” is only just beginning to spread. While out on tour, Krell took to his SoundCloud to drop off another audible treat for his rapidly growing fan base. Since he just put out 11 original tracks via Total Loss, this time around the Colorado native decided to put his spin on a song from 1978 that you’ve probably never heard before. It’s “Blue Crystal Fire,” and it was originally an acoustic guitar ballad by singer, composer and musician Robbie Basho. Krell brought out the acoustic guitar for his version as well, but additional ethereal sounds and his penetrating high-pitched tone take this track into a different realm. It’s always great to see modern artists shining light on those who came before them, but never quite attained broad popularity. Grab Total Loss over at iTunes.
