Fresh Off The Boat with Eddie Huang: Episode 1 - Oakland

After recently showing you the trailer for Eddie Huang’s online series Fresh Off The Boat, we now bring you the first taste of the show in its entirety. For his first stop, the New York-based chef/writer explores the unconventional food scene of Oakland, California and encounters a group of bikers who give hunting lessons in their spare time. Be forewarned, the episode contains elements that are graphic in nature, including the live slaughter of a rabbit. However, in Huang’s view, this experience was not only educational but spiritual, ultimately concluding that more people should volunteer for similar experiences in order to have a better appreciation for their food. If nothing more, this is a strong first episode that sets an “anything goes” tone for the series, which highlights the central advantage for its online format as opposed to traditional network distribution.
