Avicii to donate $1 million to charity

Avicii started 2012 the way he left 2011 – flying, and is currently in the midst of a 26-stop tour of the United States. With the track “Levels” earning him plaudits from around the world, the financial rewards which usually come with such achievements make no exception in this case. So much so, that Avicii has chosen to donate 100% of his earnings from his U.S. tour to hunger-relief organization, Feeding America. Amounting to a substantial and generous sum of $1 million, it’s no coincidence that he named his series of shows the ‘House for Hunger’ Tour. The 22-year-old Swede, real name Tim Bergling, spoke to azcentral.com about how he felt the need to address the problem of widespread poverty in the United States.
“Hunger hits everywhere and the U.S. is not immune to it, for me personally, when I found out how widespread the hunger problem in the United States actually was, it blew my mind. I never would have imagined that 1 in 6 people in America struggle with hunger or that 1 in 4 children routinely do not get enough to eat.”
Avicii also went onto say, along with his manager, that they wanted to change the public perception of an apparent pleasure-seeking, self-indulgent and hedonistic EDM scene.
“I felt it was time to turn a corner and tear down the negative stereotypes of drugs and reckless partying often associated with the house/trance/dance music scene, as it’s a far cry from what the reality of electronic music is today”
Bergling’s manager stated.
“So Avicii and I are putting our money where our mouth is and taking the first step to give back to the country and the fans that have helped shape our careers.”
