The New York Times has just reported the passing of Sylvia Robinson whom many proclaim as the “Mother of Hip-Hop.” She died early Thursday morning in New Jersey at the age of 75. She is credited for releasing the first-ever rap song by a hip-hop act on a major label, which we all know today as “Rapper’s Delight” by The Sugarhill Gang. Her second landmark single was with Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five in “The Message.” Our deepest condolences go out to her family, friends and fans. Rest in Power.
