Sensing a demand from photographers everywhere, Canon unleashes the PowerShot S100. This small, yet highly powerful digital beast, has new sensor capabilities that rival the highly popular EOS SLRs. The design features subtle finger and thumb grips and comes in titanium silver and a black matte finish. Below are all of the new features with further information available here. Retail is set at $430 USD.
The Lens – The lens has been extended longer and wider to a 24-120mm equivalent 5x zoom.
The Image Processor – The S100 debuts Canon’s latest DIGIC 5 image processor, which the company says is six-times faster than the previous version, allowing more sophisticated image processing and noise reduction.
The Image Sensor – The image sensor is a Canon-made 12.1 MP ‘high sensitivity’ CMOS sensor in the 1/1.7 format (approx 7.5 x 5.5mm). This is only the second home-grown camera the company has used in a compact camera. Also, the sensor allows for full-HD video capable of 1920 x 1080 resolution.
The GPS Unit – The GPS unit allows users to tag images with locations, along with track your movements whether you are taking pictures or not and plot the results on Google maps.
