The Maloof Money Cup made it’s New York City debut this weekend in Queens. If you are not familiar with the event, the Maloof Money Cup is the biggest skate event in the world with the biggest prize of $100,000 for first place.

The Maloof family has a long tradition in doing things right, and has proved themselves to the skate world over the past few years with it’s Orange County version.

“The Maloof Money Cup is the most legitimate, premiere, street event,” says Steve Rodriguez, founder of 5boro, a NY-based skateboarding company. “They went through the proper channels and were able to create something that is very relevant.”

The “they” are namesake founders, Joe and Gavin Maloof of the Maloof entertainment empire: owners of the Sacramento Kings, the Palms Hotel in Vegas and Maloof Music. The New York event represents a dedication to a reoccurring yearly event and the set up will remain open and accessible to NY skaters year round.
