Taking their work back to the drawing board, expect another solid follow-up to their debut collection from last year. In the pipeline are a series of collaborations with numerous popular entities like Alyasha Owerka Moore of Fiberops Denim, Evil Goose of Dreamworks Pictures and the re-release of their popular Lovewright Co. collabo. There’s a danger in being the new hot band of the moment. This is especially true in the new blogosphere internet hype craze that anoints a new favorite flavor almost on a daily basis. The bloggers, forum regulars and faceless internet critics shower the artists with love before they’ve heard one note from an album. Just as swiftly as that love comes so too does the wrath. Critics tap away at their keyboards with joy at picking apart every nuance of an album that doesn’t live up to their expectations. Knowing this, the fresh faced, pop, indie rock, dance, subversively titled band The Black Kids must be cautiously happy about all of the recent attention they have been receiving. With all of their wide eyed exuberance The Black Kids seem intent on breaking the blog critic approved curse by successfully incorporating vocals that sound eerily like The Cure, guitar licks that are similar to Arcade Fire and a look that’s more similar to the cast of a Nickelodeon teen show then an angst filled indie band. All of these qualities are not just formulas for success but rather elements that The Black Kids may utilize to becoming house hold names in the immediate future. Their download format MySpace exclusive debut EP released last year “Wizard of Ahhhs” was immediately hailed as an excellent take on pop classics. Their live shows (mostly their now legendary set at the Athens Pop Fest) are praised for their endless energy. All that’s left for The Black Kids to do now is finish what they started. The single “Hurricane Jane” (also on their EP) from their new album releasing in June “Partie Traumatic”, seems like a good place to start.

Collaborating with Singaporean brand Flesh Imp, we have chosen to remember the youth and their premature passing in the creation of our “Lost Youth” t-shirt. The design represents the brightly lit path of the youth which was so violently removed as it slowly fades out.
