Puma is looking forward to a Spring 2007 release of an accessories line created by Dutch designer Marcel Wanders. Wanders’ claim to fame began in 1995 with his creation of the Knotted Chair. This was the beginning of a long line of projects with major European contemporary design manufacturers like Cappellini, Bisazza, B&B Italia, Poliform, Moroso, Flos, Boffi, Droog Design and Moooi (of which he is a design director). The freedom given to Wanders via Puma allows for an interesting design perspective due to the dissimilarities in agenda of both companies. As you can by the pictures some very interesting pieces are set to release in terms of luggage and bags as well as non-conventional products such as tents.

Comme des Garcons is no stranger to the fragrance facet of fashion having released their first fragrance labeled “Comme des Garcons” back in 1994. Along the way they have created some innovative scents including ‘anti-perfume’, “Odeur 53” which was the result of the blending of 53 non-conventional scents. April 2007 will mark the release of three new scents under their Play series.
Head: bitter orange, black pepper. lime and saffron
Heart: thyme, sage and sea notes
Base: oak moss, patchouli and musk
Although CdG prides itself on unconventionality, the Play series doesn’t find a central theme in invention and design, but rather the find approval through simplicity. Each perfume will be boxed in a plain bottle and box. Each 100 mL bottle will cost 60 Euros or $80 USD.
Upper Playground and the FIFTY24SF Gallery will play host to an upcoming “Show Me Your Heart” Exhibition. The event will being April 5th and conclude April 29th. The exhibit is a foil of two influential photographers in the USA’s Estevan Oriol and Japan’s Yasumasa “Yone” Yonehara. In similar fashion to art show’s of the last little while, a strong basis lies in the ability to create and enhance dissimilarities due to the societal and geographical differences brought forth by each photographer.
Estevan Oriol entered the entertainment industry in an unconventional manner back in the late 80’s as a bouncer at various big Los Angeles hip hop clubs and hotspots for the people of Hollywood. However, his decision to start playing around with photography in 1995 gave him a great opportunity to capture and express to the world the raw essence of street culture. Not before long, his interest in photography yielded him the opportunity to showcase his works in leading magazines such as The Source, Details, Vibe, The Fader and Rolling Stone. As well a by-product of his success resulted in the creation of the creative agency SA Studios with famed tatoo artist Mister Cartoon. Estevan Oriol has also directed various music videos for artists such as Cypress Hill, D12, Linkin Park and Blink 182 as well as feature films.
Yasumasa “Yone” Yonehara is the creator of EGG magazine in Japan, a photo periodical that deals with the Ganguro fashion trend. As well, Yonehara’s success with semi-erotic Poloaroid pictures has resulted in projects with American Apparel and magazines such as Dazed & Confused, Warp and Vice. To top it off, Yonehara is also the author of numerous books.

Nike has made some innovative products within the last little while and definitely one of the reoccurring themes appears to be the hybrid concept of meshing two shoes together to form one shoe, there have been many examples over the past such as the One Time Only Pack, the Dunkesto, Spiz’ikes etc. The list is actually quite long but each releases has definitely had it’s own followings.
This latest creation from Nike is the combination of a Free, Air Trainer 1, and Dunk High. Whether this sneaker has any performance benefits is yet to be determined but it must be noted that the Free sole is that of the Trail Free and not the regular Free. It would make sense to create a high top trail runner with good lateral support (via forefoot AT1 strap) due to the uneven terrain associated with trail running. Stay tuned for more details!
