First, please note you do not use a comma after the Dear Professor ______ . You would use a semicolon as it is a business setting email, not a personal one. However, you could use the comma if you are buddy-buddy with your professor. I doubt it. Never use abbreviations in a business type email (school counts as this). Spell it out. "Thanks" isn't formal either. Use something like "Best Regards," or "Sincerely." Always add this sentence or a similar one at the end: "Thank you for (your time/taking the time to read and respond)."

I understand you guys can make grammar errors and use informal writing here, but keep it away from your professional settings.

If you can't write an email to your professor, how and why are you even in college?

Lmao at using Dear.... unless it's personal then don't use that. Use Hi or nothing at all and just go straight up to title and name.
