i went into the official levi thread and got so many mixed responses about sizing on levi 501 stfs.

alright so, i saw them at a store for $32 and thought it was a good deal, but i am confused. my size with some bagginess is 31x31, if i was to go a little skinnier it'd be 30x30. what size of STF should i get to achieve the fit most people have on here. thanks

(and the sizes i mentioned were before i wash them if that helps)

^ I don't see why not? It will just take longer, esp if it's too big for you.

If I wear my STFS everyday AFTER school would the fading process still work?

As long as you put wear into them the fading process will still go on

Different tailors have different rates but I've seen someone say that their taper cost about $15~$20.

That's the average from what I've gotten here in Michigan, make sure they're good, though.

Yes, if your denim is selvedge, its best to inform your tailor to keep it intact.

You'll be fine then. A good source to use is www.yelp.com, type in Tailor and then your City,State. Based on reviews, you will find your best tailor around your area, good luck.

Might be a stupid question but just how is tapering done on jeans? Do they just open up the leg up to the knee and taper from there or?!?!

They unstitch the outseam and then pull it in to get the amount of taper that the owner wanted

Yes, but some tailors cut it off when they taper them so its good to inform them that you want to keep the selvedge intact.

Hmm is it possible to just taper from the knee down and not have the area above it changed?
