Mercedes-AMG Takes the Top off the S65
A first for the premium S-Class line of models.
Mercedes-Benz’s performance-centric AMG arm is transforming the S65 into a convertible. Set to debut at next month’s Detroit Motor Show, the upcoming S65 Cabriolet will sport the same upgraded engine — a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 capable of 621 horsepower and 737 lb-ft of torque — as its coupé predecessor, as well as a seven-speed automatic transmission with Controlled Efficient, Sport and Manual drive modes. Interestingly enough, the vehicle was assembled at Mercedes’s Mannheim factory instead of AMG’s usual Affalterbach HQ.
Capable of accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in 4.1 seconds before hitting a top speed of 186 mph (for those who opt for the non-electronically limited Driver’s Package), the S65 Cabriolet will be available beginning next April with prices expected to eclipse $300,000 USD.
