Robert De Niro Is Bernie Madoff in HBO's 'The Wizard of Lies'
The iconic actor teams up with director Barry Levinson to play the infamous financier.
Robert De Niro is coming to HBO for the very first time, teaming up with director Barry Levinson (Diner; The Natural; Good Morning, Vietnam; Rain Man, Bugsy) for The Wizard of Lies. Marking just the latest collaboration between the Academy Award-winning actor and director (De Niro also starred in the likes of 1997’s Wag The Dog and 2008’s What Just Happened), The Wizard of Lies sees De Niro as Bernie Madoff — in an adaptation of Diana B. Henriques’s book of the same name — and retells the story of the infamous financier’s Ponzi scheme, which is widely considered to be the largest financial fraud in U.S. history. The film also stars Michelle Pfeiffer as Madoff’s wife, Ruth, while the movie itself is the latest in a long line of Levinson projects for HBO (Oz, You Don’t Know Jack, Phil Spector).
The Wizard of Lies premieres this May.
