Now this is the type of song that could change the course of your weekend for the better. Both pulling inspiration from a timeless, classic 80′s hit and celebrating trips to the strip club, the trio of Mikey Dollaz, King Louie and Salva deliver a new anthem. Entitled “Forever Be Dat Guy,” the song serves as Mikey Dollaz’s lead single in support of his recently-released Picture Me Rollin project. The song’s sound is built around a sampling of the 1984 Art of Noise hit “Moments in Love,” which has been flipped into something suitable for lapdances and dollar bill-coated club floors everywhere. The video is directed by Matthew Bernucca and Phil Jordan, and takes place at the spot the song belongs the most: a strip club. The song’s sound draws inspiration primarily from Art of Noise’s classic “Moments In Love.” What’s your relationship with that song like? Would you consider yourself a big fan of it?
I’m actually more of a fan of the instrumental. That was the instrumental I walked in on my 8th grade graduation. Been in love with the beat ever since. I actually asked SALVA to remake the beat for me while I was in L.A. And all I could hear on it was big bro King Louie. So that’s how that came about.
What are your feelings on the original “Moments In Love” video?
To be honest never saw that video or heard the song. So I wouldn’t be able to answer that one, haha.
Since the video is in strip club, are there any particular strip club anthems that you feel could soundtrack and work well with any enjoyable strip club experience?
One song I can say works well with any enjoyable club experience is “Tip Drill” By Nelly and Murphy Lee n’em, haha.
How do you feel about the music of King Louie and Salva? Considering the versatility of the producers you work with, would you say you’re a pretty open minded and eclectic artist?
First off I’m just going to say that besides knowing Louie through the streets and all the extra stuff, I’m a big fan of his music because of the music he makes. I believe he’s one of the most underrated even though he’s a little more accomplished than a lot. And SALVA’s just an all around demon with it, and a amazing and easy guy to work with. So I respect both of their crafts highly. And yes I do consider myself very very open minded. Not only with my beat selection, but also the type of music I make.
Are there any other collaborations you have on the way that you’re excited about? Who are the artists you would love to collaborate with next?
I actually have another big song that isn’t released yet featuring King Louie and produced by Zora Jones and Drippin, who are from Spain. I’m very excited and ready to drop that and put in more work with Zora and her team. I also have a solo song that I love because of the production’s from Sega Bodega, who’s from London and also a very cool dude to work with. And like I always say, I would love to do some work with Future, Drake, and people like Lil Wayne in the near future.
Regarding new music, what specifically are you working on right now?
Besides the Picture Me Rollin mixtape that’s out and doing great right now, I have multiple mixtapes done. One produced by one of the best producers in Chicago, Saint “The Good Boy,” which is set to drop next and very soon. And I also will be going back to LA soon to work on a small album with SALVA, so that’ll be pretty big also. In between I’ll just be dropping visuals and unexpected tapes I put together for the fans. And also I have another tape called Feature Price dropping soon, which was created to help other Chicago artists I rock with gain a bigger fan base. So I’m really just working.
