Online ads are the bane of the modern-day web experience — although nobody wants to see them, this is often the only source of revenue that content creators who are pushing the bounds of creativity across the Internet make a living off their work. As such, the current trend of using ad blockers may create a better browsing experience for the user, but takes away revenue from what are already meager margins for the creators. New startup Adieu aims to change that with a new business model by asking the user to pay a small fee, with which Adieu will use to outbid companies for a website’s ad space, within which your choice of imagery will be inserted, whether it be your own photos or images from a community you follow. New users are given $2 USD upon signing up for a free trial, and Adieu estimates that $3 USD should be enough to keep your browser ad-free for one month, creating a win-win situation for both the user and the content publisher.
