Recently opened is Hyundai Card‘s stunning “Music Library + Understage” complex, which serves as a repository of vintage vinyl records from around the world. Located in Hannam-dong in central Seoul, the complex houses the combined collections of several Korean music collectors, who collectively traveled the globe to collect such coveted vinyl rarities as The Sex Pistols’ 1977 track “God Save the Queen,” the Beatles’ controversial “butcher cover” for the 1966 album Yesterday and Today, and The Rolling Stones’ 1969 A Special Radio Promotion Album in Limited Edition. The end result was the accumulation of 10,071 vinyls, along with 3,000 vinyl-related books and every issue of Rolling Stone magazine since its first issue in 1967. As such, the building’s top two floors are dedicated to records and music publications from the ’50s to the present, while the basement is the Understage performance venue for indie artists. Six LP players in the main atrium are also available for people to listen to records on. The Music Library is the third of the credit card company’s “library project,” with the Design Library having opened in 2013 and the Travel Library in 2014. For more information, click here.
