The last several years have seen many question the innovation and competitiveness of Sony in the consumer electronics landscape. With a few bright spots here and there, namely with Sony’s camera division, the Japanese electronics brand is set to shake things up with the RX1. Relative to its size, the RX1 will sport a huge full-frame 24 MP sensor shared with its DSLR associate, the A99. The camera is slated to have the ability to shoot 14 bit RAW files in an ISO range of 100-25,600 at 5 fps. In terms of optics, the lens itself is rumored to be a non-interchangeable f/2.0 Carl Zeiss offering. A magnesium body will provide a good compromise between weight and durability, but the lack of weather sealing means it will still reside as a very expensive — almost $2,800 USD — prosumer option. Look for an official unveiling to take place in the coming days.
