Description
Michael “MEGA” Yabut is the co-founder and creative director of streetwear label Black Scale, founding the label along with Aldred de Tagle in 2007.
In 2003, MEGA left behind his career in the biotech industry to work at his favorite boutique store HUF in San Francisco. Over a 7 year stint at HUF, where MEGA learnt the ropes of the independent business and clothing production industry from Keith Hufnagel and peers, what initially launched as a side project in the form of Black Scale soon became a full-time occupation.
MEGA cites Hufnagel as having taught him every aspect of the industry, from retail and buying, to distribution, design, and running the brand of Black Scale that now boasts five physical storefronts in the U.S., Tokyo and Shanghai. MEGA’s designs deliver unprecedented streetwear designs that embody raw, street-bred aesthetics.
