Achievement
Marine Serre followed up her breakout, LVMH Prize-winning 2017 with a year that propelled the young French designer into the pantheon of today’s premier fashion designers, receiving praise alongside the likes of her former boss, Demna Gvasalia. Serre’s unique blend of cultural motifs, sportswear functionally, recycled goods and a futuristic imagination found its way to the mainstage of Paris Fashion Week this September. Her Spring/Summer 2019 “Hardcore Couture” collection received critical acclaim from fans and pundits alike, revealing not just women’s ready-to-wear, but menswear and kids clothing too. And if her sophomore showing wasn’t enough to stake her claim in the withering boys club that for far-too-long has presided over the female-dominated fashion industry, Marine has already received some prestigious co-signs: from footwear collaborations with Converse and Salomon, to retailing in Dover Street Market stores around the globe and finding her name next to Lagerfeld, Tisci and McCartney in Vogue. “A year ago I was in school and couldn’t even pay for my apartment,” she tells Vogue. “But I’m not scared, because I have nothing to lose.”
