Nike ACG is back. While the brand never formally shut down -- you may have seen ACG-branded products on shelves in recent years -- it lost its edge. However, in February, it became clear that the Swoosh is committed to bringing back its "All Conditions Gear" mantra. Beyond recent collections like the innovation-backed Team USA 2026 Winter Olympics collection, the brand is back to signing athletes and sponsoring races, demonstrating a re-centering to performance.

On the product side, its disruptive designs continue with today's introduction of the ACG Zegama Hike. Its proposition is being built to "move confidently across rugged terrain while delivering lightweight responsiveness and all-day comfort." What that translates to is building the light, responsive Zegama Trail into a durable boot-shoe hybrid that can handle demanding hikes. Its trail-oriented last features a spacious forefoot and toe, ensuring comfort throughout your journey. Meanwhile, a plush layer of ZoomX foam and a Vibram Megagrip outsole deliver a premium step. As for the upper, its reinforced build features an ankle gaiter to prevent debris from entering the boot.

“Zegama Hike is disruptive for all the right reasons, bringing the best of Nike innovation into hiking and delivering a holistic system that puts the athlete’s needs at the center," says Brenden McAleese, director of ACG footwear. "ACG is doing what the brand does best: dreaming up performance gear wrapped in ACG-only magic.”

Nike hosted us for a special preview of the ACG Zegama Hike, where we unpacked what makes the shoe special. In addition, we were treated to an exclusive sneak peek of upcoming colorways. Joining the eye-catching launch colorway are two gray iterations. While one features a blue collar, both pairs toggle between different grays, and a black Vibram Megagrip outsole ensures they are all-terrain ready. From there, a black pair with gray detailing and tooling is joined by a stealthy all-black iteration, completing the initial range.

This year’s edition features 33 athletes across 16 sportswear brands — a new record for the category. Five newcomers join the list: Angel Reese, Jacy Sheldon, Joel Embiid, JuJu Watkins, and Tyrese Haliburton. Four names, meanwhile, fall off. Brandin Podziemski quietly switched to the Converse SHAI 001, stepping away from his Rigorer line. Spencer Dinwiddie exited the league without a follow-up to his 361 DVD 4. Sydney Colson departed her Creative Control line for Nike, while Jordan Brand shuttered Zion Williamson’s signature series. Looking ahead, Cade Cunningham and Caitlin Clark both have Nike signatures in development. Reebok also unveiled a forthcoming signature for college standout Darius Acuff Jr. during March Madness. New Balance, meanwhile, confirmed Tyrese Maxey has a silhouette on the way.

Angel Reese: Reebok Angel Reese 1

Our first of five newcomers to the signature shoe lineup this year is Angel Reese. She debuted the Reebok Angel Reese 1 during her sophomore year in the WNBA, in which she earned her second All-Star nod. Equipped with a molded TPU upper, the eye-catching design matches her bold energy. Its key performance specifications include Reebok's Energy Return System underfoot and strategically placed nitrogen-infused SuperFloat foam pods.

Anthony Edwards: adidas Anthony Edwards 2

Anthony Edwards and adidas set the bar high with their first collaborative shoe. Since the energy-shifting debut, the adidas Anthony Edwards 2 channels the Minnesota Timberwolves’ leader’s energy with its fanged design. With Lightstrike and BOOST underfoot, Edwards has once again set the standard for what a successful signature shoe line looks like, bringing his own dynamic flow to a performance-ready sneaker.

Austin Reaves: Rigorer AR3

Should someone at Rigorer switch careers to become an NBA talent scout? When the Chinese brand presented Austin Reaves’ first signature shoe, he was a reliable 13 points per game with limited starts. Since then, he’s blossomed into being Luka Dončić’s co-star on the Los Angeles Lakers, putting up over 23 points per game this season. Meanwhile, he continues to thrive off the court, dropping the Rigorer AR3. His latest development in the sneaker space sports a knife-shaped TPU overlay, anti-torsion padding, and a court-ready outsole.

Breanna Stewart: PUMA Stewie 5

Breanna Stewart recently committed to sticking with the New York Liberty, the franchise she led to a championship in 2024. She’s also stayed true to PUMA and teased the PUMA Stewie 5 back in January. No information regarding the sneaker has been officially shared yet. However, it looks to build upon their existing design language with a new split-sole and a perforated upper.

Damian Lillard: adidas Dame X

Damian Lillard’s been sidelined from competition since tearing his Achilles tendon, yet he still managed to not only participate but win this season’s 3-Point Contest during NBA All-Star Weekend. While Portland Trail Blazers fans eagerly await his return next season, his lifetime partnership with adidas continues to flourish, with the adidas Dame X as a return to form for the duo. Tapping into the brand’s futuristic design language that set the tone for the industry, the breathable, textile upper features strong linework, with three prominent segments nodding to the Three Stripes.

De’Aaron Fox: Under Armour D. Fox 2

De’Aaron Fox’s signature line with Under Armour is set to continue despite the severed relationship between the American sportswear brand and Curry Brand, a situation we’ll unpack later. Renamed the Under Armour D. Fox 2, a fox-tail-inspired midfoot strap is back. Its tooling featured jagged geometry, giving Fox’s feet a bolder presence. Meanwhile, the upper balances breathability and lockdown with its lightweight films and textile detailing.

Devin Booker: Nike Book 2

After an unprecedented amount of colorways for his first shoe, Devin Booker and Nike Basketball are continuing to take things to the next level with the Nike Book 2. Upon introducing the sneaker late last year, the duo revealed that it comes in two builds. A molded upper taps into the brand’s ‘00s catalog while a mesh version of the shoe, spearheaded by a Spiridon-based colorway, opens up its airflow. He’s again looked to his personal interests for inspiration, blending skateboarding and vintage car aesthetics to create a sneaker that “trimmed the fat” of its predecessor, both figuratively and literally.

Donovan Mitchell: adidas D.O.N. Issue #7

Is Donovan Mitchell the most underrated star in today’s NBA? He continues to be overshadowed in both on- and off-court discussions despite approaching superstar levels of performance in both settings. His adidas D.O.N. Issue #7 is as elegant as his drives to the basket, featuring a zip-up shroud that makes the shoe as sleek as any other pair on the market. Rounding out the design, Lightstrike Pro cushioning allows Mitchell to elevate with ease.

Giannis Antetokounmpo: Nike Zoom Freak 8

Has Giannis Antetokounmpo’s time with the Milwaukee Bucks run its course? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for certain: he’s committed to the Swoosh. With the Nike Zoom Freak 8’s debut last month, the Greek Freak and Nike Basketball have taken an entirely new direction. Impact circles on each side of the midfoot extend from the upper to the midsole, with distinct textures across both. A full-length ReactX midsole ensures Antetokounmpo can Euro step past the competition.

Ja Morant: Nike Ja 3

Another star that may be leaving their original franchise soon is Ja Morant. While his court presence has been inconsistent in recent seasons, the Nike Ja 3 is a staple. Reinterpreting his scratch motif, the shoe cleverly uses its pattern alongside the Swoosh to create his own “JA” callout. This unique canvas has hosted a wide variety of thematic colorways, including a recent Jurassic Park-themed collaboration.

Jacy Sheldon: Holo JS:01

Our next addition to the signature shoe roster is Jacy Sheldon, who has worked with Holo to develop the Holo JS:01. The Washington Mystics guard was picked fifth in the 2024 WNBA draft and was acquired by the Mystics just before a season-ending right ankle injury. Looking more closely at the JS:01, it uses an inner bootie construction that recreates the feeling of wearing socks. Underfoot, the brand’s Honest Foam Elite+ and supercritical foam emphasize energy return.

James Harden: adidas Harden Vol. 10

James Harden paved the way for the futuristic design language of contemporary basketball footwear with his adidas Harden Vol. 7. Years later, he continues to build on this foundation with the adidas Harden Vol. 10. A new, wavy, sculpted upper is backed by a BOOST-based sole unit. Meanwhile, he’s not only compiled a new set of eye-catching colorways but also tapped Willy Chavarria for a bold rendition of the shoe, setting the tone for designers to get involved with signature lines moving forward.

Jaylen Brown: 741 Performance Rover

Typically, I’ve included only shoes released since the last edition of this round-up. However, in the case of Jaylen Brown, I would be remiss not to mention his 741 Performance Rover again. In the wake of co-star Jayson Tatum’s injury, Brown has cemented himself as one of the league’s greats this season. He’s done so while wearing the 741 Performance Rover, a signature shoe from his own brand. While he remains in the same model as last year, he did tease an experimental 3D-printed design made in collaboration with Zellerfeld.

Jayson Tatum: Jordan Tatum 4

Speaking of Jayson Tatum, despite being sidelined for most of the season, Jordan Brand still rolled out the red carpet for the Jordan Tatum 4. Since returning, he’s exceeded all expectations, in part thanks to the new shoe’s performance. Its sturdy, reinforced upper utilizes textiles to maintain airflow. Underfoot, a Zoom Air unit at the forefoot and Cushlon foam emphasize responsiveness.

Jimmy Butler: Li-Ning JB4

While Tatum recovered from an injury, Jimmy Butler was stuck dealing with a new one this season. The Golden State Warriors forward suffered a torn ACL in his right knee in January. Before that fateful event, he continued his signature line with the Li-Ning JB4. The Chinese brand’s advanced design features a unique exterior mold.

Joel Embiid: Skechers SKX JE1

Joel Embiid, several years removed from his Under Armour signature line, is back with a new one, this time tapping Skechers. The duo introduced the Skechers SKX JE1 earlier this season as part of the brand’s commitment to basketball. The former NBA MVP’s new shoe features a grid-like pattern atop its breathable upper. 5GEN cushioning and a molded Move Foam insole provide support with every step.

JuJu Watkins: Nike LeBron NXXT Gen by JuJu

Is a new era for signature lines upon us? The Nike LeBron NXXT Gen by JuJu is one part player-exclusive and one part signature shoe. Introduced by JuJu Watkins and Nike Basketball earlier this year, the co-created shoe is the first of its kind from the LeBron NXXT Gen platform. While durability, comfort, and cushioning were the focal points, its clean style has made it a standout among the silhouettes to come. She may not be in the WNBA (yet), but this unique addition to Nike Basketball's arsenal is an important inclusion.

Kawhi Leonard: New Balance KAWHI V

We’re nearly two years removed from the introduction of the New Balance KAWHI IV, and it wasn’t until last week that we received official word of its sequel. Kawhi Leonard did tease the New Balance KAWHI V during NBA All-Star Weekend, and if his incredible performance is any indication, the shoe is ready for action. As with previous models, it favors a low-cut build and is equipped with a dual-density FuelCell midsole, a soft synthetic upper, and a forefoot Y Plate.

Kevin Durant: Nike KD19

Kevin Durant may be 37 years old, but his play on the court doesn’t reflect it. The Houston Rockets’ sharpshooter continues to dominate as his signature line also enters the late chapter of its run. The Nike KD19, unveiled last month, introduces a new TPU dagger that taps into Durant’s “Slim Reaper” alter ego. A full-length Zoom Strobel returns to his line while a 3D-molded sockliner and Cushlon 3.0 midsole prioritize comfort.

Klay Thompson: ANTA KT 11

Despite it being two seasons since Klay Thompson moved from San Francisco to Dallas, seeing the sharpshooter in a Mavericks jersey remains odd. While he moved on from his original team, he’s stuck with ANTA for his signature shoe line, which most recently introduced the ANTA KT 11. An engineered woven upper harmonizes with a court-ready sole unit that embraces his new jersey number, 31.

Kyrie Irving: ANTA KAI 3

Speaking of ANTA, Thompson’s teammate both on and off the court, Kyrie Irving, has continued his partnership with the Chinese sportswear brand. The two introduced the ANTA KAI 3 earlier this year. This new model in the duo’s breakout line centers around stability, flow, and responsiveness. A breathable upper is supported by a stability system at the forefoot and a nitrogen-infused N2 foam midsole. Per usual, Irving has kept his rotation bold, offering a unique variety of colorways.

LaMelo Ball: PUMA MB.05

When it comes to bold looks, nobody can compare to LaMelo Ball and his PUMA line. The Charlotte Hornets star has kept things colorful, introducing the PUMA MB.05 ahead of the 2025-26 season. A new engineered mesh upper is inspired by his “1” motif, while NITROFOAM cushioning is featured in the midsole. Its eye-catching color schemes are complemented by new collaborations with Rick & Morty and Fast & Furious.

LeBron James: Nike LeBron 23

What does the future look like for LeBron James? The all-time great is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, with everything from a Cleveland return to teaming up with Steph Curry on the Golden State Warriors to a sudden retirement as a few of many possibilities for the 41-year-old superstar. It will also be interesting to monitor how his signature line with Nike Basketball proceeds, as the Nike LeBron 23 was his most special entry to date. Each colorway of the state-of-the-art performance shoe celebrated a special moment from King James’ career, accompanied by a matching graphic tee.

Luka Dončić: Jordan Luka 5

The third Los Angeles Lakers star with a signature shoe is Luka Dončić. Announced at the end of 2025, the Jordan Luka 5 is another low-cut offering from Jordan Brand and the NBA’s top scorer of the season. Built with a full-length Zoom Strobel and new ISOband, it synergizes with Cushlon 3.0 cushioning and his line’s signature ISOplate.

Nikola Jokić: 361 Joker 2

Another pair of teammates who share NBA teams and brands for their signature shoe line is Aaron Gordon and Nikola Jokić, both with the Denver Nuggets and 361 Degrees. The Serbian superstar dropped the 361 Joker 2 this season, offering it in several different builds. A dual-midsole with supercritical foam at the heel is as responsive as ever for the brand. Meanwhile, the distinct upper stands out with nods to the Joker himself.

Sabrina Ionescu: Nike Sabrina 4

Adding to the list of recent reveals, Sabrina Ionescu’s hit signature shoe line with Nike Basketball is back for its fourth installment. The Nike Sabrina 4 sees her low-cut series evolve with a new TPU FlyPlate inspired by sprinters. This re-engineered element is accompanied by a lightweight upper that nods to Ionescu’s Romanian heritage via a special haptic print. As with previous iterations, a vertical Swoosh has been placed at the medial.

The Stephen Curry x Under Armour era is officially concluding. After decades of collaboration, it was revealed that the Under Armour Curry 13 is the sharpshooter’s final design. Instead of wearing the shoe, he opted to pay homage to his peers, switching between many of the shoes highlighted in this list. Meanwhile, the awkward rollout of the Curry 13 has continued with GOAT-themed colorways that all feature HOVR+ cushioning and a 3D-molded chassis.

Tyrese Haliburton: PUMA Hali 1

Tyrese Haliburton is the fifth newcomer and final entrant in this year’s round-up. The 26-year-old led the Indiana Pacers to the NBA Finals, connecting on one buzzer-beater after another on his way to the game’s biggest stage. It was then that he revealed the PUMA Hali 1, designed in collaboration with PUMA and Salehe Bembury. After well over 100 editions of best footwear drops across the past four years, this is my final one. While the content itself has always been fairly ordinary, it became a ritual for me, and I'd like to think there are at least a few people out there that tuned in regularly.
