adidas Casts the BW Army Lux in Time-Worn "Dust Sand" Colorway

adidas is set to reprise the military-inspired BW Army Lux with an inline colorway dubbed “Dust Sand.” Offering an elevated yet accessible alternative to luxury military recreations, the $120 USD sneaker boasts an authentic antique sensibility in the choice of color and materials.

Based on standard issue sneakers distributed to soldiers, the historic silhouette is a favorite of designers, including Maison Margiela, Dior and Hender Scheme. However adidas was producing the silhouette long before these ateliers, supplying German forces with the original design throughout the 70s. So it doesn’t really get more authentic than adidas’s pair.

The uppers are dominated by a crackled leather dyed in a yellowish-beige that resembles an oxidized patina. Smooth leather overlays offer textural contrast to the body and omit the three stripes that are usually found on other retro adidas models like the Samba, Gazelle, and Superstar. Further leaning into the antique feel, the shoe sits atop traditional natural rubber gumsoles that perfectly complement the “Dust Sand” hue on the uppers. At the toe box a t-shaped overlay made from soft suede adds further textural contrast. Lastly the tongue boasts raw leather edges and a quietly embossed adidas Originals emblem.
