DE SARTHE Gallery is set to unveil Art Survivors, a solo exhibition by Hong Kong-based artist Mak2. The exhibition offers a respite from the intense commercial atmosphere of the art world, inviting participants to detach from reality and find humor in their experiences. Opening on May 4 and running until June 22nd, the show features a first-person zombie shooting game set in an imaginary art fair, alongside a new series of canvas works titled “Home From Home.”

Upon entry, visitors encounter an AI-generated video artwork titled “This Way to the Game (2024),” setting the tone for the interactive experience to follow. The centerpiece of the exhibition is the interactive FPS game “Art Survivors (2024),” where players navigate a virtual art fair overrun by zombies. Through gameplay, Mak2 explores the competitive and hierarchical dynamics of the art world while injecting humor into the narrative.

In addition to the game, “Home From Home (2024)” presents triptychs blending scenes of domestic bliss from “The Sims” with the zombie apocalypse theme, reflecting on the blurred lines between comfort and conflict in contemporary society. These artworks challenge notions of security and escapism, emphasizing life’s unpredictability amidst technological advancement.

Through satire and comedy, Mak2’s exhibition underscores the challenges of survival, both in the art world and in life. Head to DE SARTHE Gallery’s website for more information.
