Get an Inside Look at Copenhagen Fashion Week with André Saraiva
Exploring his 1664 collaboration for the latest ‘Day in the Life.’
When it comes to fashion week, not only does Copenhagen become a hot spot for trend-setting style, but also art, architecture, and lifestyle design. This season, it was a collaboration between premium beer brand 1664 and André Saraiva that landed at the center of this summer’s showcases. To get a closer look, Hypebeast headed to the Danish capital for a new episode of Day in the Life.
Revealed earlier this month, the respective collaboration sees Saraiva undertake a total “artist takeover” of the 1664 bottle and can, presenting a perfect blend of his joyful style and the beer’s light and sparkling notes. Stocked and served across Copenhagen, the launch moment served as a citywide expression of two recognizable identities coming together, brought to the creative community as they moved from show to show.
It was on the second day of fashion week that Hypebeast followed the Franco-Swedish artist across the city to discover the activations and artworks promoting the limited-edition drop. Beginning in the central Indre By district, he arrived on his bike, ready to start the day by checking out the collab’s new kiosk pop-up.
From the outside into the store space, the location was given a true 1664 makeover with its signature blue tone on shopping carts, baskets, and fridges stocking the beer. Talking through the design of the bottle he says, “I started graffiti because it took my work to different places. This collaboration is the same in that way, it’s being passed around to everyone who drinks a bottle of 1664. It has the spirit of graffiti.”
Having spent weekends in Copenhagen creating art in his youth, this wasn’t Saraiva’s first, or last, rendezvous in the city. “Copenhagen is close to my hometown in Sweden so I spent a lot of time here, it was always known as the place with the cool kids.” Knowing the area like the back of his hand, he jumped on his bike and directed us to his next stop.
With onlookers filling a nearby area, the artist joined them under the sun to take a look at the mural he created just a few days before. The expansive artwork, stretching a five-story building, features line drawings of his Mr. A and Mrs. A characters with a bottle of 1664 Blanc. As midday struck, the artist made his way to the Caro Editions show, led by his friend Caroline Brasch, where he sat front row to enjoy the outdoor procession of printed designs.
After a quick check-in at the Tekla presentation, Saraiva arrived in Vesterbro for a special dinner on the historic Carlsberg grounds. As the guest of honor, the artist took his seat in the middle of the table which held special-edition bottles of winery beer Blanc de Blanc with gold labels that he designed. Next to him sat Frederick Bille Brahe, a restauranteur who had previously hosted pop-ups at Saraiva’s Hotel Grand Amour in Paris.
This time, Brahe created special dishes that complemented the beer’s taste, served alongside locally sourced fresh fruits, vegetables, and other produce. “Copenhagen means good food, good aesthetics, and good values,” Saraiva shared after the four-course meal. But above all, he says, “It’s about everyone sharing and equality. That is what I tried to capture with 1664 tonight.”
