Tissot’s PRX Digital Reimagines Decades of Classic Timepieces
Fast-forward into a new era for the PRX in the “RETRO SPRINT” campaign.
Presented by Tissot

Retelling the story of its past through the fusion of pioneering designs, Tissot unveils the new PRX Digital watch. As the name indicates, the latest model is built with the minimalistic body of the Swiss brand’s archetypal PRX series as well as a digital display powered by a quartz system.

In a blend of features laden with celebrated iconography, the new watch harks back to a watchmaking era where Tissot’s PRX and the digital series were a sign of the times. Born in the ‘70s, the PRX series welcomed new innovation with a quartz digital movement instead of a mechanical system, giving watches more precision and less maintenance all within a thin casing. With quartz opening up the door to new possibilities in horology, the digital series came soon after. Engineers such as car bodywork designer Nuccio Bertone crafted digital displays, most notably programming the Tissot Stratos with two time zones.

With this drop, Tissot signals a new journey for its watches, paying homage to its pioneering classics whilst continuing to introduce updated elements. Though balancing the old and new requires a careful approach – one that steers clear of upsetting vintage obsessives, the PRX Digital shows how embracing returning trends provides a foundation to modern interpretations.

The new collection arrives in two sizes with 35mm and 40mm diameter cases, each in three retro-style versions including satin-finished, all-gold and stainless steel silver metals with a matching silver or black dial. Keeping the feel as close to early PRX editions as possible, the same polished materials are featured on the bezels, pushers and clasp bracelet.

Taking a closer look, Tissot integrates brand-new Swiss-made DGT-2040 Quartz digital movement system within the sleek body. Similarly to the Stratos, it powers a dual time zone display, day-date, timer and alarm to offer its wearers the facets needed for modern-life. The digital dial is encased in a classic mirror sapphire glass that is known to be one of the most high-resistant glasses on the market. Each of these technical features are incorporated with subtlety to add performance while maintaining the overall timelessness of the new model, reflecting the brand’s versatility in watchmaking.

For the accompanying campaign, Tissot instills the fast-moving energy of the ‘80s to capture the new watch amongst nostalgia-evoking motifs of the decade. Set in an arcade-like video game, “Retro Sprint” sees bike racers adorning the watch as they race through time, encapsulating the design language of a past future.
