Dinner with JAY-Z or bring home $500,000 USD? Hov says he’d rather fans take the money.
The artist answered the question to the long-running debate in an upcoming interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, stating, “You gotta take the money.” King voiced the common conclusion that the wisdom he can impart on his dinner guests will be more valuable than half a million dollars, but JAY-Z begged to differ and explained that what he can offer is already publicly available — and at a much cheaper price. “You got all that in the music for $10.99 USD. That’s a bad deal, I wouldn’t tell you to cut a bad deal,” he said humorously.
“Take the $500,000 USD, go buy some albums, and listen to the albums,” Hov continued. “It’s all there if you piece it together and really listen to the music for the words, for what it is — it’s all there. Everything that I said was gonna happen, happened. Everything I said I wanted to do, I’ve done, and there’s The Blueprint. The blueprint, literally, to me and my life and my journey is there already.”
Although this is the first time JAY-Z directly answered the question, he already gave his suggestion via the social media account of his streaming service, TIDAL. “Take the 500K,” a tweet from 2021 read.
