As far as automotive luxury goes, Mercedes-Maybach has been an unfaltering leader in a long line of sought-after vehicles with its distinguished “more is more” attributes. Welcoming in the new Haute Voiture limited edition model, the car brand shows how its now elevating the extravagant design approach with supreme exclusivity to create its most collectible edition yet.

The luxury car was first shown to an exclusive clientele in Dubai last December, alongside a curated runway show by Atelier Zuhra. Following the design cues of the concept model, it comes enveloped in fine materials, rich colors and sleek finishings, commonly seen in Haute Couture. Chief design officer at Mercedes‑Benz Group AG Gorden Wagener shares, “The intricate features and exclusive design elements are what makes the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Haute Voiture one of the most extravagant models we ever created – it represents Sophisticated Luxury in its purest form.”

With late designer Virgil Abloh igniting new pathways in car design through his state-of-the-art Project MAYBACH, the fashion world has since shown a growing importance in Mercedes designs. Similarities between the two industries have allowed designers to reimagine fashion’s cutting-edge ideas into automotive creation while staying true to its luxury pillars. Though the S-Class Haute Voiture is more champagne glamor than Abloh’s abounding utilitarianism, it shows ongoing versatility in the German brand’s portfolio.

In its opulent design, the new Maybach boasts a range of tailor-made features from the exterior inwards. An exclusive pairing of two-toned paints characterize the car, seeing the roof and forged wheels in a bold, nautical blue, bouncing off the shimmering rose on the lower-part of the car. In what Mercedes regards as a “sensual mix of colors,” they are worked into the interiors to create endless synergy.

As the doors are opened to a treasure chest of rose-gold accented elements, LCD technology illuminates the front and rear entries. Inside, the metallic edges on the dashboard and center console wrap around and frame a combination of fine materials. Much like previous S 680’s, the usual components of seats, armrests and the roof lining are upholstered in a crisp white nappa leather which is offset by textured navy, beige, gold and rose gold bouclé as well as a linen and mohair to emphasize the luxury feel. Indicating the extreme exclusivity, each model is finished with a badge on the center console showing its number within the limited run.

But it’s not only the typical aesthetics of haute couture that influence the latest Mercedes-Maybach. The recent surge in tech-generation at fashion houses inspires a new MBUX infotainment system. It hosts a set of 12 avatars that can be customized in a classic assortment of black tie garments. Passengers can sit back and watch the system’s catwalk style graphics while sipping from the car’s rose gold champagne flutes.

For those who hope to continue the haute couture experience outside of driving, the brand is also launching a handbag collection alongside the car, available to buy at Maybach Icons of Luxury physical and online stores. The pieces take on its original materials – such as the bouclé and nappa leather – and see them cut and crafted into an assortment of shapes and sizes. Rounding off the S-Class Haute Voiture in an appropriate fashion, the bags bring a new meaning to the complete luxury car experience.

Like the runway-to-wardrobe offerings of bespoke fashion, the new S 680 drops in highly-limited numbers, bringing a rareness and exclusivity to its release. Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes Maybach Mercedes Benz Group comments, “With a restricted limited run of 150 units, the special edition reflects our brand philosophy to occasionally release aspirational collectibles.” He adds, “Thus, we further strengthen the position of Maybach as the ultimate luxury pioneer and facilitate one-of-a-kind luxury experiences that go beyond our customers’ expectations.”
