Jessie Reyez Premieres Dark, Visceral Video for "Same Side"
Reyes portrays a conflicted assassin against the single’s smokey production.
Colombian/Canadian singer Jessie Reyez has introduced a new music video for “Same Side,” off her debut album, Before Love Came to Kill Us, which recently received three bonus tracks. Against the song’s sparse production, Reyez plays the part of a perturbed assassin preparing for a hit in the prequel to her “Crazy” video.
As the song gently layers vocal harmonies, organ sustains and guitar plucks, the video sees Reyez preparing to make her move. After gearing up with a shotgun and additional tools, Reyez anxiously awaits the arrival of her victim. Lit by the headlights of a white van, Reyez takes aim at its tossed-out cargo: her ex-lover, who attempts to appeal to her emotions as Reyez attempts to pull the trigger. The video’s director, Peter Huang, has worked with Reyez several times now, including the Eminem-starring “Good Guy” video.
